This course is an elective course for all high school students. The course is designed for students as an introduction to business as it applies to all individuals regardless of their career goals. In addition, Introduction to Business provides essential background information for those students who plan further study in business and economics in high school or later in college. This course examines the operation of the American economy and its relationship to the world of economy, examines how businesses are organized, explains the functions of money and finance in our economy and studies the consumer use of credit.

Accounting Applications

Today, business is hot. The world is in fast-forward. Accountants make it happen, with the financial knowledge and analytical skills needed by every company and organization. The accounting field continues to grow. If you are planning to major in any area of business, in computer programming or plan to maintain financial records in your daily life, then consider “Accounting.” This course will provide a foundation for both personal and business record keeping methods. The student will explore the accounting cycle through recording business transactions, preparation and interpretation of financial statements, and various banking procedures.

Advanced Business Studies

This course is designed for those students interested in studying business at the college level. The course introduces organizational factors relevant to the management process. Students will explore various intriguing topics including ethics, the business environment, business foundations, organizational and leadership skills, quality control, and entrepreneurial skills. Students in this class will also receive the unique experience of running the school store at MASH.

Investments and Valuations

This course offers an in-depth exploration of finance and the stock market, focusing on key concepts such as financial ratios, company valuation, and cash flow analysis. The objective is to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the stock market and the principles underlying company valuation. Through a stock market simulator, students will actively trade throughout the semester, observing and tracking the fluctuations in their investments. 

Digital Marketing

This class will focus on the foundations of marketing, and will accomplish this goal from a digital perspective. Students will journey through the realm of digital marketing, analyzing the manner in which companies advertise using technology, as well as how they themselves can become smarter consumers when it comes to this topic. Students will explore various, relevant and current social media platforms, and how marketing firms utilize them in order get their products in front of consumers. Finally, students will explore the world of digital marketing utilizing a dynamic simulation, where they will be able to make decisions, spend money, obtain likes on various sites, and market a product. Their goal in this exercise will be to advertise their product and place it in front of the largest amount of consumers possible. Students will leave this class with a thorough understanding and interest in the field of digital marketing.

Career Development 9

Career Development is a course that all freshman are required to enroll.  In this introductory course students will begin to explore their interests and aptitudes in framing out an academic and career plan to assist the decisions they will make through high school and in planning to transition beyond. Additionally, students will engage in the study of entrepreneurial concepts that reflect current trends in the labor market as it relates to their future possibilities.

Career Development 11

Career Development is a course that all juniors are required to enroll. This course will build on the 9th grade course with a heavy focus on career acquisition. Students will create career-seeking documents such as resumes and cover letters, participate in a mock interview, and examine different career pathways, among many other topics. Students will leave this course with a thorough understanding of how to prepare for their own individual futures, as well as the necessary information needed to successfully present their graduation project.

Personal Finance

The Personal Finance course will teach students how to strategically and safely earn, save, spend, and invest money. Students will learn to set goals and make decisions that reflect sound financial practices.
