Elmwood Mentor / Educator Exploration Program
Elmwood Mentor / Educator Exploration Program
Have you thought about becoming a teacher but are not quite sure? Could you envision yourself serving as athletic coach, summer camp counselor, or working with elementary students or youth in some capacity? Are you willing to dip your toes in the waters of education to see how you’d like it? If so, then perhaps this program is for you. This program occurs during the school day and is worth one credit for one semester, as is the case with most MASH internships.
Students selecting this internship option will go to Elmwood Academy 4-5 times per week for a variety of experiences. One day you could be assisting on the playground and the next day you could be helping a teacher work with small groups in their classroom. You might find yourself one week in a 4th grade classroom and the next week helping the PE teacher.
Students in this program will work with the program coordinator at Elmwood to select options to contribute to the school day and school year development of our 4th and 5th grade Wildcats. As students continue exploring throughout the program, they will work with the Elmwood program coordinator to either maintain a variety of experiences or begin to narrow the focus of their contributions.
The ultimate goal is for the MASH student to contribute to the Elmwood community while growing their own skills and developing their ability to see things from many different perspectives. This is a one semester placement and students are responsible for their own transportation to and from Elmwood Academy.
Students selecting this opportunity should indicate internship (Elmwood Mentor) on their course selection sheet.
